By the invitation of the World Nuclear Association (WNA) based in London, on September 9, 2020 Mr Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, First Deputy Minister of Energy - Director General of Uzbekistan’s Nuclear Energy Development Agency, attended the WNA Strategic eForum.
Uzbekistan’s high official addressed Uzbekistan’s vision on development of nuclear energy as part of the plenary session ‘Building a Strong and Cleaner Future with Nuclear Energy’, which was also attended by Rafael Mariano Grossi, IAEA Director General, Agneta Rising, WNA Director, Scott Foster, Director, Sustainable Energy, UNECE, William Magwood, Director-General, OECD Nuclear Energy Agency.
The event attendees as well as panelists were informed about the practical steps taken by Uzbekistan towards the development of renewble energy and, above all, nuclear energy, which is designed to make a significant contribution to ensuring sustainable & long-term economic growth of the country, strengthening its scientific potential, Uzbekistan's fulfillment of its international obligations in the fight against climate change by reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
Having huge scientific and technological expertise in working with nuclear energy facilities, Uzbekistan is firmly committed to close and regular interaction with the IAEA, WNA and leading countries, including on ensuring high safety standards.
