
On May 5, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a government session through a video call on emergency incidents in Bukhara and Syrdarya regions.
Key points:
1. On April 28, a severe storm occurred in the Bukhara region, damaging more than 38k homes, 847 social facilities, crop plants and local infrastructure. The Government is taking all necessary measures to eliminate the consequences of the disaster. To date, the roofs of 70% of public facilities and 20% of the homes have been restored. 5k km of power lines and 1,1k transformers were repaired, electricity supply to 286k residential buildings was restored.
2. Due to dam breach of Sardoba reservoir in the Syrdarya region 90k people were evacuated to a safe place and provided with basic necessities. Residents of the neighboring regions sheltered 81% of those evacuated. To date, 53k people returned to their homes. The Government Commission is investigating the causes of the disaster.
3. As a result of the natural disaster in the Sardoba reservoir some settlements in neighboring Kazakhstan were also flooded. The leaders of the two states discussed this issue by telephone in the spirit of mutual understanding and openness. The governments of both states will work closely together to combat the aftermath of the disaster.
