
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Decree “On Additional Measures to Improve the System of Protection of the Children’s Rights” as vivid evidence of reforms to improve the system of protecting the rights, freedoms, legitimate interests of the child & create an effective system for fulfilling Uzbekistan’s international obligations in this area.

Key facts:
1. Commissioner for Children's Rights has been introduced, who will be acting as Deputy Commissioner for Human Rights of the Uzbekistan’s Parliament (Ombudsman).
2. Public Council for the Protection of Children's Rights under the Commissioner to be created to monitor compliance with the rights, freedoms & legitimate interests of the child.
3. Commissioner exercises his/her powers independently of gov’t bodies and their officials, having regional representatives throughout the country.
4. By February 15, Commissioner submits to the Uzbekistan’s Parliament an annual Report on the state of compliance with legislative acts on the protection of the rights, freedoms & legitimate interests of the child by all gov’t bodies & law enforcement agencies.
